By using a cold air intake, the air temp and mass airflow sensor will tell the ECM that a cooler and perhaps a more dense air supply is present. The ECM will compensate to maximize a proper air/fuel ratio, usually by adding more fuel with a longer fuel injector pulse, resulting in more power.
