Sounds like there is a gas leak in the fuel lines or the gas tank itself is leaking. With the engine running, follow the fuel lines from the tank to the engine look for any rusted out lines or worn out o-rings at your fuel filter. Smell to see where the leak is. If the leak is big enough it will suck in air and cause a loss of power....keep me posted
BTW - be very careful gasoline is very flamible. Remove any rings or jewlery when checking for leaks. These items can cause a static spark and remember the gas is under pressure and is probably spraying out from the leak....Of course do not smoke...

ok, my camaro had a somewhat simular problem. i dont think one your cylinders is working. it kinda rumbles and shakes at idle? like its got a cam? if so thats most likley what it is. all i did was replaced the cap and rotor. and then i got new plug wires, about 40 to 50 dollars. u might just need the wires. it would explain the strong smell. and the bad mileage. and the shaking. see if that works dude
