1996 Chevy Camaro 96 chevy A/C no cold air

Now that it is getting warm I turned the A/C on and it's not generating any cold air. What steps can I take to check it on my own before paying somebody to fix it/look at it?

The fans blow and the heater works.

Check to see if A/C compressor clutch is engaging. Do you have A/C gagues?
