I drive a 1994 S-10 Blazer with 160,000 miles. For several months now the car sputters at stoplights and occasionally dies. If you give it gas the sputtering stops. If it dies it always cranks again. I have been to 3 mechanics and all have told me, "There is nothing wrong with your car." We tuned it up - new spark plugs and wires, cleaned throttle body, etc... One mechanic said it was just bad gas, but we have filled the tank plenty of times and gas does not make a difference. We also replaced the fuel filter. Since there was "nothing wrong" I continued to drive it. Then, yesterday, when I stopped in my driveway, the car started sputtering and shivering; almost coughing. And the smell- UGH! It is horrible - it almost smells like burning plastic, but not quite. I am clueless as to what is going on with my car. But I am not convinced it is "nothing".
I have had no problems whatsoever with the Blazer cranking. It starts up beautifully every time - even when it's chilly.
Yesterday while it was running I did notice something dripping from the exhaut pipe once the car warmed up. Also, I've noticed that the crazy sputtering and horrible smell only happen once the engine has warmed up.
