Accelerator sticks

Driving down the freeway at 70 miles per hour. The accelerator pedal stuck to the floor and the brakes would not slow or stop the vehicle. We down shifted to D1 and drove off the road to the shoulder and had to turn the ignition off in order to stop the vehicle. We started the vehicle and it sounded as if the accelerator was pushed to the floorboard. We lifted the accelerator and there was no change. Could this be either the throttle cable or accelerator cable? This vehicle is fuel injected.

Short answer is yes. This is most likely a throttle cable issue, but we need to start with checking the throttle bore and see if it is dirty. If there is build up on the throttle bore and plate then it can stick and cause this issue so what I would do is change the cable as that is the likely issue, and clean the throttle bore as that will cover all the bases.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

Below you will find the process on how to replace the cable as that is the likely cause and I would highly suggest replacing it.
