My g/f's 1995 berreta has a code in the computer the light comes and goes. While driving. I was going to perform diagnostics on it by connecting the ground terminal with the diagnostic terminal, to make the check engine light flash out the codes. The connector appears to be missing several terminals, including the diagnostic teminal, this car has had several owners in the past. I cant find any evidence that wires have been pulled off the connector. Is it possible that someone has tampered with the connector, and why, is the a wire on the pcm that I can ground out to retrieve the code(s), if so what color would it be? Thanks, john f

No, I'm afraid you can't get flash codes from this vehicle. They can only be retrieved on OBD1 vehicles. You car is a transition year which gives it an OBD1 system but and OBD2 connector. This creates a big problem because you can't even use a code reader on this one. You have to use a professional scan tool on this year.

Well it does have the gm style obd1 connector, just like my 94 saturn has, but there is only two wires going to it, one is the ground and the other is the abs.( According to the haynes book for this car.) The rest of the terminals are empty. What ever the code may be, it has effected the mpg. The performance is still good though, I suspect an o2 sensor, but I want to be 100 percent sure.

O/2 codes rarely mean bad sensor.
