Hello

I purchased my Beretta a few weeks back from my brother in law. He had it parked for almost a year because while he was driving it, the Power Steering pully pulled out of the pump.

I replaced the pump 3 weeks ago, and have been trying to figure out the leak ever since.

So far, I have put in 2 power steering pumps (thought the first one might have been bad), replaced the "O" ring on the High Pressure line - Pump Side.

I don't see any cracks, holes, or anything else that indicates that there is anything leaking from the pump. But every day or two, I have to refill the reservoir.

Here's the odd part, I can drive it on the highway for 150 miles, and it hardly leaks a drop. But if I drive 20 miles in the city, all the fluid is usually drained.

I've had a friend turn and hold the steering wheel left and right, making the pump work hard. I couldn't see anything leaking.

Last night, I put a large piece of cardboard under the front of the car, and this afternoon, I noticed that there was a fluid buildup on the cardboard.

It was on the passenger side, about 6" in from the side of the car, but was about 2 1/2 feet back behind the wheel (well behind any steering system).

I checked under there, and saw 2 lines running front to back, they looked like either brake or fuel lines, but the fluid was defiantly power steering (it has kind of a "distinctive" smell too it.

Do you have any ideas?

Figured it out. It was the power steering cooler line that ran under the underbody of the car. It rubbed through where the plastic holding bracket held the line in place.

I cut the line, used some self flaring connectors I purchased at auto zone, and it's fixed!
