2003 Chevy Avalanche Engine Light

Engine light has been on for a few weeks with no performance issues. I disconnected the batt to see if it would reset but no luck, still on. How do you find the code? Will it produce a code without test equipment? And then how do you find out what the code means? I am a former mechanic (many years ago) and would like to repair this myself if I can without buying expensive test equipment. Thank you.

Your going to need a scan tool to get the code's. If you live in a state that allows the part's store's to scan for code's that's your best bet give that a try. If you can get me the code number's I will get you the trouble tree for it. Just include the 8th digit of your vin with the code number's.
