On this chevy astro can the gear lash be adjusted or things done to rectify a grinding sound? Once there is wear or damage can it be recrified without entirely rebuilding the gearing? I was driving a leased taxi cab that had this happen I warned the owners of troubles that they ignored until they heard me pulling into the lot. They did not have their own garage and would shop the repairs out to whom ever would do the work cheaply (owners from india) The person/garage that repaired claimed the gears were trashed again I am asking since I dont know if there are adjustments that can be made. I think the garage duped me as well as the uneducated owners which allowed the repair then sprung the cost of repair on me. I never got the repair parts back that they replaced either.

Are you saying that lash adjustment cannot help since there is noise? Can this differential be adjusted or do parts need replacement once wear is distinguished by exam or grinding etc. I am trying to find out if the garage ripped me off that repairs were possible by adjustment rather than the costly rear end rebuilt
