My van has been losing battery life and I tracked down the useage by testing which fuse had power going thru it and the culprit was a 30 amp fuse described as "upfit-batt" what in the world is "upfit batt"?

I'm not sure what that means, but I will give you some ideas on how to diagnose the problem.
First, I hope you have had the charging system checked out, and your battery load tested. If so, lets go! Remove your positive battery cable, get a twelve volt test light,
connect one end to the positive cable, and the probe end to the positive terminal on the battery(use a hose clamp). If the test light comes on, something is drawing the battery down. Open the door, the test light should light. If the test light lit when you hooked it up, you need to pull the fuse for the courtesy lights so you can open the door w/out test light working, then start pulling fuses until the test light goes out. When it goes out, the short is in that circuit. It also might be a good idea to pull out the glovebox light bulb too. Good luck, hope you find it. Mickey-d
