1997 Chevy Astro Loud sound in rear

I have a 1997 Astro Cargo Van, retired from PEPSI, and the rear makes a kind of loud sound while driving. A mechanic told me he thought it was the bearings going out. Got any ideas and suggestions?

Does it grind, or get more excessive the faster you drive. If so it is probally your bearings. Easy DIY job. It could also be your differentrial also. Bearings cheap and easy. The diff. Not as easy or cheap.
