1993 Chevy Astro Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200000 miles

This morning I was taking my boyfriend to work and the Service Engine Soon came on and stayed on for about 5 minutes. I checked the oil, Trans fluid, and coolant. They are fine. The van runs good. I was just wondering what could make the light come on. I have had a tune up too. I would make a donation but I am a single mom with four kids. So please help

Check for trouble codes. Place a jumper between terminals A & B. Turn the key , just till the dash lites come on, no further. The check engine lite starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
