The check engine light came on, and I tried to check it manually using a tutorial on this site. I opened the "diagnosis"box and jumped T1 and TE1 like the tutorial said. I turned my key to the on position, but the light remains steady. I even tried waiting a while and doing it again. According to the tutorial, it should be blinking with the code, but it just remains steady.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

The link you reviewed is for vehicles made prior to 1995 having the OBD1 system. Your vehicle is an OBD2 system and requires a scan tool to retrieve the codes. Here is a quick video that shows how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scan tool. However, most often, a parts store will do it for free or they will lend/rent you the tool.

If you find codes are present, let me know what they are and I will be better able to help.

Take care,
Joe

Welcome back:

You are welcome. Have you gotten the computer scanned? If so, what codes were retrieved?

Keep me in the loop. I would like to know what you find.

Take care,
Joe

Welcome back:

I attached in picture form the exact definition of the code for you to see. In this case, chances are the thermostat is either sticking open and not allowing the engine to warm up in an allotted amount of time, or even the sensor itself may be going bad. Take a look at the pic I attached. If you already got it taken care of, great. If you haven't, let me know if I can help.

Take care and thanks for letting me know.

Joe
