My check engine light came on and I brought it to advance Auto parts. They gave me the code but told me they couldn't tell me what it was. I looked it up. It has something to do with the catalytic converter but maybe you can explain more what I have to do to fix this issue. From what I can tell, it looks like I might have to buy a brand-new catalytic converter. The code is p0430.

Hi,

You are correct. It is related to the catalytic converter. To be specific, it is for Bank 2.

The code indicates the catalytic converter is working below the threshold. In other words, it isn't doing its job. However, the code can be set as a result of other problems.

Do you have an exhaust leak between the engine and the catalytic converter? Are there any other codes that could indicate a fuel mixture issue, misfire, oxygen sensor, or anything other you are experiencing? Is this the only code that is stored? By any chance, do you have a live data scan tool?

Let me know. Also, I attached a pic below showing the most common repair for this code. Note that it indicates lower possibilities which include spark plug replacement and engine coolant temperature sensor.

Let me know.

Joe

I brought it to advance Auto parts to have them set it up to their computer and the gentleman showed me the computer. That was the only code that I saw on there. I'll check tomorrow after I get off work to see if there's any leaks or if any of the O2 sensors wearing harnesses are bad. I haven't had time to climb under my truck yet, but I'll take a look and take some more pictures than anything that looks out of place.

Hi,

There is a chance it is being caused by one of the other things I mentioned. Hopefully, it is something simple.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
