I have a reoccurring check engine light, when filling up with gas the gas nozzle shuts off. My mechanic has replaced the gas sensors, having to drop the gas tank to do so. This fixed the problem for a short time. The check engine light came back on within days. They then replaced the air mass flow sensor and a small hose/tube. The check engine light came back on, then when idling in traffic the rpm would go up the car wanted to surge forward, then the rpm would go down the car seemed to want to quit running and did not want to accelerate. They then replaced the purge valve which fixed the rpm issue, but check engine light came back on within twenty four hours and when filling up with gas the nozzle shuts off constantly.

Any suggestions?

From the description it sounds like the light is probably an EVAP related problem. Namely that the vent valve is stuck closed and not allowing the fuel vapors to move out of the tank and into the charcoal canister to be burned when the EVAP purges. This would also cause the problem with filling the tank.

Have them scan the system and post the actual code(s) that show up.
