I went to dealership and my car won't go past 15MPH. The TCM has the latest update. It seems the engine starts right up and goes right into gear but something electrical is putting it into a limp mode. I have traction control light on. Attached is a picture of my engine codes none around here is any help. It looks like it's losing connection with PCM at times. I checked the ground. Am I missing anything?

Okay. You have a lot going on here with these codes so if we are going to focus on the reason for limp mode then more than likely you have the wrong TCM in the vehicle.

Did you just recently purchase this vehicle or just replace the TCM?

I am attaching the info below on this issue because this will explain what is happening with this code.

With this being a CVT, it requires a certain software program and I suspect it is the wrong TCM or a TCM that has a different software in it from a differently equipped vehicle.

It would also be helpful to scan the CAN using this guide or get a scan report from the dealer and that will tell us what software and VIN are programmed into the TCM:

Clearly the TCM is telling you that it has a mismatch configuration so again, I suspect you or someone previous to you changed this with the wrong part.

Let me know if there is more to this story. Thanks

So, I replaced the transmission because the other one didn't work, said the dealership, and once I replaced it. I took it directly to the dealership to flash the TCM to that car. My second guess is it's electronic and I'm going to depin the connection and switch it with a head that works and isn't broken because my theory is it's not properly connected and is losing connection. Below is what the connector looks like. If you look closely, you can see the pins connector doesn't lock and align correctly.

Did you use a used transmission? Did you confirm this transmission was out of another CVT vehicle? There are a lot of vehicles that use the 2.4L so do you have the VIN of the vehicle this transmission came out of?

I am guessing that you got a different (non CVT) transmission and tried to use the TCM out of that vehicle as well? If that is the case, you are getting these codes because all the other vehicles modules are expecting to see a CVT transmission, and you replaced it with a different one which is why the mismatch code is coming up.

This could work but you would have to change the sales code and do what is called a reconfiguration. By doing this, you are changing the way the vehicle is equipped and then telling the vehicle about this change. You can't just change the parts and the computer on this vehicle like you could on the older vehicles.

Do you have the VIN of the vehicle that this transmission came out of?

I can get the VIN; it did come from a different compass it is a CVT transmission and I don't plan on changing the computer just the wire head when I went to the dealership they matched my transmission to my VIN.

Okay. Let's start with the VIN of the other vehicle because your vehicle is telling you that the calibration in the TCM is not correct. So, can you contact the dealer and ask if they ran a report called a scan report and if you can have a copy of it?

This is going to show the software number that is the TCM which I suspect is going to be wrong for this replacement transmission. Take a look at the attachment below.

What this is telling you is that there is a software calibration in the transmission which the TCM needs to recognize. When it doesn't it sets this code.

You should be able to do a relearn process and it will correct this but if they did this relearn and the code is still there, it is not possible to relearn this again.

Which means it was learned to the previous vehicle and cannot be programmed again. At this point you would have to replace the valve body inside the transmission and then have it programmed to this vehicle.

So, the part number of the actual transmission may be the correct one, but the problem is this was already programmed to another TCM.

There may be an issue with the wiring connector, but I don't see this causing these codes.

I will get you this report when they open tomorrow but are there any instructions or location on where and how to remove the valve body? I still have access to my old transmission so I can just take that out and replace it with what's in my transmission now?

Okay. That is the VIN off the transmission so this points us back to the previous plan that if the valve body is learned to the TCM that these TCM codes should go away.

At this point, changing the valve body from the other transmission is the best plan of action.

Thanks for the update.

Is this a good reference to go on i only ask because of the instructions mention fabrication a rod. Last thing does it need to be out of the car to remove or can i replace valve body without dropping transmission?

Yeah. That is fine. That is the same transmission as yours. I am pretty sure you can do it in the vehicle. I don't remember ever doing one on a Compass but you just need access to that pan.
