Transmission not shifting properly?

For several months the service ESC and service traction has been on my screen. I kept driving because it seemed to be fine. But yesterday I noticed smoke coming from the back of the motor where the exhaust is. I turned the car off. When I went to crank it back up it would not go in drive. It will go in reverse and the manual gears but not drive. I added transmission fluid hoping that would fix the problem. It seems every time it gets hot, something is getting got around the exhaust or transmission. Any ideas what could be wrong?

The warning light and transmission issue are not the same problem. Please start a new question for the warning lights. First, we need to run the codes to see what comes up. here is a guide that will help with that, it sounds like the pressure control solenoid is not working correctly. here is the location and how to change it out in the images below.
