Car will not blow cold AC

I had my AC stop last year. I replaced relay and it worked. This year it has stopped again. After replacing relay it still doesn't blow cold air. Blowers are working, and when I engage AC button the compressor engages and I can see it spinning. I used a AC refrigerant kit to top up. Gauge reads 38psi when activating compressor is running at full. Not even the slightest bit of cold air comes out. When I was filling with refrigerant, it did spit out cold air for a moment, but this may have just been a fluke.

Good morning,

Those gauges are not accurate and you cannot tell Freon level by pressure.

You need a full set of gauges to see what the system is doing. You can rent a set at a parts store. Give me the high and low side readings.

Also, when command heat and cold, can you hear the mode door moving back and forth in the dash?

Thanks for the speedy reply! I have called all our part stores where I live and none of them rent unfortunately. Is there a way I can check my refrigerant in my vehicle? When I engage AC button, there is light at the button but I don't hear a difference. When you mentioned hot and cold command. Do you mean when I engage AC? Or when I turn the dial from hot to cold. Lots of air blowing out vents so I didn't think it was any sort or blower issue. I really did assume my relay was bad seeing that the AC was so good last year. But unfortunately not this time. Is there anything else I can check or do without those gauges? Otherwise I may have to buy a set.

Turning the dial.

No way to check the Freon level at all.

You can buy a cheap pair of gauges at Harbor Freight.

I checked the dial. I can hear it switch and feel the difference in hot and cold air. Don't have Harbor Freight in Canada, but I will try and source some somewhere.

What would the the next step be once I measure with the gauge? Just debating if its worth me buying them if the only outcome would be replacement of an expensive part or something.

I need the readings to see what the pressures are.

Once I know them, then we can discuss the next step.

Did my measurement. I will post pictures here. There is a picture with engine off and engine on warm with AC full blast.

Was the compressor on when the engine was running? The fact the pressures are the same tells me the compressor is no good as it is not building any pressure.

Compressor was runing. Seems like the low side went up and high stayed about the same. Is there a beat practices way to conduct the test?

You have done the test. If the compressor was running and those were the pressures, then the compressor is bad.

You will need to replace the compressor and the dryer, vacuum it down for 30 minutes and then charge.

Thanks very much Roy! It's been a great help. Is it worth checking the expansion valve? Since the low side does move higher when AC is engaged?
