Every time I turn the wheel either left or right or turning it to park, it feels like my car is about to shut off. It starts shaking and. What can this be?

Hello Nancy,

Your situation can certainly be frustrating. There are several variants that could cause what you are experiencing. In order to more fully isolate your concern and give you the best advice possible I am going to ask you a few questions that will direct us to the most probable repair. In your memory think of when this condition most often occurs. How long has this been happening? Is it only during slower, parking lot type maneuvers or does it happen at higher speeds as well? Is there any noise associated with the shaking such as a whine or howl? Does the vehicle normally run smooth at idle? Look underneath the vehicle and see if you have any large or noticeable leaks. Also what is the condition of the tires? Are the treads in good condition and similar on both sides? By eliminating the easier situations will allow us to more accurately identify your concern.

However, based on what you are seeing the most likely cause would be something related to the steering. You have an electrohydraulic power steering pump that is still driven by a belt. So what I would do is one of two things. First lift the front tires off the ground to remove any load and then turn the wheel and see if it still acts like it is going to stall.

Or remove the belt and see if it still acts this way. However this is going to be hard to steer so I would suggest lifting the front end.

We may still have a base engine issue and just adding the additional load from the steering is inducing this but we need to start with all these questions to try and start eliminating things and go from there. Thanks
