My car has been sputtering or either putting when I press my foot on the gas. Also, when I am driving for a period of time my car will not go over 60 mph even if I put my foot all the way to the floor board. Recently I am starting to smell gas inside of my car. Please please help me.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

Power loss can be the result of a few different things. If the check engine light is on, I suggest having the computer scanned to determine diagnostic trouble codes. Also, if you smell gas, that is a concern because any fuel leak is potentially dangerous.

With that being said, things such as low fuel pressure, a plugged catalytic converter, plugged air filter can cause power loss. Based on your description, I first question the catalytic converter. Take a look through this link. It discusses the most common causes of low power.

Let me know if anything there is helpful.

Take care,
