Hi. I recently returned from the mechanic only to find my problem still persists. My car has been making a strange squeaking sound when I turn the car left or right. We were under the assumption that the issue may be the power steering belt so that was immediately replaced. It was wearing down. The car also appears to have a leak in one of the pumps using the power steering fluid. It has been recommended I replace that soon. After replacing the belt, getting an oil change, and topping off on fluids I test drove the car for a while but the issue still appears to be there.
I replaced the shocks a few months ago as I thought that was the reason for the sound but it was to no avail. At that point I took it to the mechanic and we raised the car, turned the wheels all the way to one side and applied some WD40 to certain areas near the wheel to see if that alleviated the issue which it did. Thing is, I'm not entirely certain exactly what part of the car that was that we applied the WD40. Either way, once the WD40 dried up, the sound came right back so you can see my aggravation at this point. Naturally, a 10 + year old car is going to rust up a bit and this can cause some mechanical problems which is what I think I'm dealing with here as opposed to something near the engine (like my power steering belt).
If someone can determine what part of the car is causing the squeaking sound, I can go through with replacing that particular part. Clearly, it is coming from a particular part that is rusting pretty close to both wheels. I'm not a mechanic nor an engineer so determining the part is a bit tough for me.
Another interesting note is that when the weather cooled off significantly and began to rain, the problem again resolved itself. My theory is that the rust along with the bad part is causing this and any form of lubrication that the car can get helps, however, it is a temporary fix.
Any help would be appreciated. Sort of running in circles.
