Strange symptoms, but there is a possible answer to this, you may have a faulty vacuum brake booster, when you push the brake pedal, engine vacuum activated the booster and if there is a leak, the engine will falter as a result, get the booster checked out, this can be done by removing and blocking the booster line and push the brake pedal and see if the engine falters, also test the booster by shutting the engine off and press the brake pedal several times to remove all vacuum, hold the pedal down and start the engine, the brake pedal should sink a little under pressure. Do not drive the can with the booster vacuum disconnected as brake will be very heavy and very poor operation.
