Push button start hard to engage. When it does cannot get acceleration over 1,000 RPMs. Trying to move vehicle, still very low RPMs and barely 5 MPH. Car in neutral with accelerator floored getting no RPMs.

Hi,

This could be a few different issues. The idea that the engine doesn't respond when you press the throttle leads me to think it is likely related to either the APP (accelerator pedal position sensor) or the TPS (throttle position sensor).

What I would recommend doing first is to scan the can-bus to see if there are diagnostic trouble codes stored. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will identify codes regardless of the module storing them. Here is a quick video showing it being done:

That is the best place to start. Otherwise, it becomes a guessing game. We will need to check one component at a time to see if there is an issue. If that is something you want to do, let me know.

Also, I believe this vehicle has a CVT transmission. The problem could be related to the transmission control module as well. What I need you to do is confirm if the gear indicator is accurate. For example, when in park, does it show a P? I ask because if the trans control module isn't identifying the correct gear, that could be the cause of the issue.

Let me know if you have it scanned and what codes are retrieved.

Take care,

Joe
