Car doesnt downshift into low

My 2000 mazda doesnt downshift into to low unless shifted manually. One thing that I noticed is that were it shows what gear you are in is no longer lit up. I dont know if this would have anything to do with it not shifting to low or if it occurred at the same time

It is possible but my bet is on the valve body. Have it checked to confirm at a trans shop

No I haven't taken it to let anyone look at it yet. Vi hoped it would be something simple
