My husband and I have been having issues with our vehicle, but the most recent is the car started clanking when the accelerator was pushed and eventually something popped and the car stopped working. We have been able to turn the power on in the car but the engine won’t start. Please help I don’t know what needs to be repaired.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

If the engine was making those noises, I'm a bit concerned. Have you checked to make sure the engine oil isn't low or the engine coolant? Also, when you check the oil, does it look normal or does it appear coolant has mixed with it? Take a look through this link.

When trying to start the engine and the starter is engaged, does it sound normal when it is cranking?

Next, open the hood and inspect the serpentine belt. What is its condition? Is it off? Is it loose?

Let me know.

Joe

Thank you so much for replying! I should have mentioned that the car started clanking while my husband was driving and after the pop happened and the car stopped working we ended up getting stranded. Thank you we will be checking the car for the things you said.

Happy to help. Honestly, I hope it isn't major, but the idea that it was making noise like you described really is concerning.

Let me know what you find, if you need more help, or if you just have any questions.

Take care,
Joe
