If you purchase a water pump from a parts store like AutoZone, it'll run you about $50 bucks. The problem is, most shops won't install parts you bought yourself.
They'll tell you it's because they don't want to warranty someone else's part, and they prefer to go through their own supplier.
But the truth is, most shops use a service called Alldata that gives them their repair procedures, as well as labor rates and part prices. And Alldata will quote a price of $150, which is rediculous. But this allows the shop to quote you that price, so they can then go by your water pump from AutoZone for $50 and make an extra $100.
And if they install your bought part, they'll be cutting themselves out of the hundred.
As for straight labor, most shops will charge you $150-$200. But shop around and don't be afraid to tell a shop that someone else is quoting you a lower price.
