This is a perfect touring coupe for my wife, however, its been in a Cadillac dealership for over four weeks. It has had the 100000 mile checkup. The engine stop running, some time it will restart, other times its a tow job. Two different dealerships have tried to fix the problem. The first dealership replaced the air intake and there were no further problems for over two years. When the problem occured again, the car was taken to another dealer. To date they have had the car for four weeks. They say it wont refuse to restart after it cuts out and therefore the computer can not tell them the problem. HELP JJ

Take it to another shop. If they are properly testing the car they should atleast know if they are having a issue with spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse.

So they are saying that it re-starts everytime?

Until it stalls and doesn't restart, it may be a waiting game. At that point it can be tested under the criteria Tim mentioned. I can take guesses, but that isn't going to help you unless I magically hit the mark.

The first reply-spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse.

IF I was to take a guess as far as a more common problem, I would say a MAP sensor.N The two crank sensors if it is a 4.6 motor. IF it was a 4.9 motor I would be suspicious of a ground to the pcm or the pcm itself.

But those are giant leaps of faith. Tim might have a good point of going to a shop that is capable of troubleshooting. A shop is only as good as the employees.

Sorry for not responding earlier. And about what the car is losing is a fairly simple thing to do if you have any idea of how a car works, thats why I suggested to bring it to another repair shop. If the vehicle stalls and restarts, something made it stall and the tech is giving it a honest effort trying to find the problem he should be able to tell if its because of spark, injector pulse or fuel pressure. These are all basic tools you need to fix automobiles. And as the other guys mentioned, if we dont have any information to give you a diagnosis on, we are being as negligent as the repair shop that is working on your vehicle.
