My 91 eldorado shredded the serpentine belt last night. My husband replaced it, and I believe we have an automatic set-in/tenstener. My question is, this morning after taking my daughter to the doctors I heard a squeeling/schreeching sound when I hit the brakes and it continued as I drove, when we stopped we noticed that the belt is already halfway gone. We noticed our power steering pulley has a chip in it and our tenstener [spelled wrong probabley, sorry.] Is bent a little bit. Could this be the cause of our belt going bad? Please help, thanks.
Also, our car has been getting HORRIBLE gas mileage, its usually at 22-25 mpg, and the display is saying 10.8 miles per gallon, what could be causing this?
