Lately, whenever I start the engine, I get a loud clicking noise coming from the center of the dash for about 45 seconds and then it stops. About the same time the heater stopped working properly until I began playing around with the heater controls. Is a heater-vent damper trying to open and can't? How do I get inside the dash to check this?

Sounds like the mode door actuator. It's about a 5 hour job for a b tech.....in reality more. There is a short cut that may help if you are going to go after this, but it may also set you behind...

Step 1 - A heater cannot operate unless the engine is full of coolant/antifreeze. If coolant level is low check the system for leaks.
