Computer problem
1994 Cadillac Deville V8 Automatic 260000 miles

My gas meter doesnt work and it hasnt since I bought it. When I first bought it it was on E anyway so I had no way of knowing it was defective but I drove to the nearest gas station and filled it up and it still says E. I have a digital dash so I dont know if its a computer gliche or malfunction or if the floater isnt working properly is there anyway of knowing?

Chances are the float assembly in the tank is faulty. It is an integeral part of the pump, so it's not a cheap fix. The only way to be sure would be to lower the fuel tank and check output voltage from the float. It should change based on the float level.
