I spent a lot of time messing with the release actuator in the trunk lid and then with the pull down motor in the trunk.
Then after studying the wiring diagram a bunch, I realized it wasn't getting power. Chased the wiring back to the driver side hinge and found wiring broken from years of flexing with the opening and closing of the trunk. Just run your hands along the wiring and feel the sharp ends!
My wife says if it goes bad quick its usually a simple fix.
Soldered in longer piece so more flexing possible.
