I don't hear any knocking. It is skipping due to lack of oil in the lifters.

I need you to check the oil pressure with a gauge. Many parts stores will lend or rent the tool and all you do is hook it up to where the oil sending unit is. Once we know the actual pressure, then we can determine if the oil pan needs removed to check for a plugged pick-up tube or bad oil pump.

Let me know what type of pressure you have at idle.
