Are there any special considerations or tips that anyone has on changing the oil on a 1948 Buick Roadmaster series 70 with a 320 strait 8? It has an exterior oil can filter housing which I am unfamiliar with and I am unsure how to change the oil properly.
I have the OEM shop manual but it does not go into detail on changing the oil, any advice?

Basically, the canister has one bolt that holds it in place. Remove it and the canister will come off. Once off, the filter is inside it. Remove the old filter and replace it. There should be a new gasket that comes with the new filter. Make sure to place a thin film of oil on it before instalation.

If you have other questions, let me know.

Actually, not off the top of my head. However, one of my best friends owns a quick lube shop. If you can't get one, let me know and I will ask him where to get one for you. I'm confident he'll know.

Also, one thing I forgot. The filter may come with a small O-ring that is for where the bolt slides through the canister. Make sure you coat it with oil before installing it. If it's dry, the bolt will rip it and you'll have a leak.

Let me know if you need me to contact him.

Joe
