Ignition switch?

I have a 1987 Buick regal. I was driving to a friends the other day and I was about 2 blocks out when everything ran off the switch just shut off. Elec fan, guages, stereo, all the acc. On the switch. My coil is hardwired so the engine kept running. I turned car off and tried the key again and nothing came on not even starter. Next day I went and got some wire and a button and rigged it to my starter so I could at least drive my car. Does this sound like an ignition switch to you? The key still turns and unlocks wheel.
