2002 Buick Regal Automatic 75556 miles

My husband changed my fuel fiter on my car and it is still running rough and quits while going down the road. My service engine soon light also came on. Don't know what else to check for or what could be wrong.
Don't have the money to take it to a garage right now so any help would be appreciated.

First, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. IF the check engine light is on, then there will be codes. Most parts stores will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket. THe code will identify where the problem is coming from. Let me know what code they find.
