Hi, I have an 88 Regal with the same exact problem. My car idles steady for 1 minute then it revs up a little for a second then it go's down for a second for the entire 8 min til it stalls. The most common causes are:
1)dirty fuel injectors, pick up a bottle of Lucas brand 'Upper cylinder lubricant & Fuel Injector Cleaner' & double up on the measurement listed on the label. Then keep your foot on the gas pedal til the car stalls & keep do'n it. U may see some smoke out the tail pipe, it's good! That's the gunk burn'n off ur injector & clear'n out.
2)bad or dirty MAF sensor. Pick up a can of MAF sensor cleaner.
3) Dirty Throttle body, You can probably use the MAF sensor cleaner to clean the throttle body too.

A bottle of Lucas is about $5 & so is the MAF sensor cleaner.
