When my car idles, I hear a noise more like a rattle or something loose. The moment I lay just the weight of my foot on the gas peddle it goes away. Usually this noise is heard when the car is still but in gear, like at a stop light. I seldom notice the sound when the car is running and in park. Could it be the tensioner on the belt or some pulley? Thanks

Hi:
The most common cause of this problem is a loose heat shield on the catylatic converter or other exhaust component. Tap on the exhaust with a rubber mallot and see if that is where the sound is coming from.

Let me know what you find.
