My 92 Park Avenue, 3800 engine, 270K miles has developed some transmission problems. Back in September when it started getting cold (if it was warm the car would not do this) I would have to warm up the car for 5 minutes or so before the transmission would engage. After that the car would drive fine, although sometimes the car would be sluggish when starting from a stop, other times it had great pickup.
As it got colder, it got to where I had to put the tranny in low and wait for the tranny to engage before it would work (drive did not work, it had to be low).
The other day I got stuck in the snow twice and overworked the tranny somewhat attempting to get out (had to get pulled out both times). Now, it takes longer for the tranny to warm up to where it will engage (low only), and now I only have Reverse, Low, and 2nd to some degree (going uphill is no luck except for low only). I do not have Drive or OD.
I have read on other posts that this is a problem with a "clutch" seal not allowing the tranny to build up the fluid pressure required for normal operation.
Any help would be appreciated.
Robert
