2005 Other Buick Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 185k miles

Bought a new Buick Royaum in China in 2005. Has 185,000 miles on it. Recently found moisture inside one of the housings. Discovered the housing developed a weak area that cracked open. Then we discovered the exact same weakness developed on the other headlight's housing and in the exact same place. That area on both the housing became as brittle as soft plaster, broke away at the touch like 1/8" thin drywall. I've attached photos showing the problem area and how it "crumbles" to the touch like chalk.

Is this type of problem "common" in U.S. cars after 185,000 miles, or does it sound like maybe our car came with faulty fixtures?

Hi JamesFemia. Welcome to the forum. No, this is not typical. As a suggestion, you might repair this with a tube of silicone RTV gasket sealer. There are different kinds, but I'm familiar with two from the Chrysler dealers parts department. There's black stuff and gray stuff. Either one will work but the gray stuff is harder when cured.

I used the gray stuff to seal a 2" by 3" gash in my fuel tank and it hasn't sprung a leak in over 15 years. You should be able seal the holes in your housings and it will be stronger than the flimsy plastic in your photos.
