I have a 1996 buick century that has 210,000 miles and it had a fuel leak when I bought it. I fixed the fuel leak by replacing the fuel pump assembly and then I replaced the fuel filter assembly. After that the car would start and idle but it dies after three seconds. When I touch the gas pedal the car either dies or it revs and runs bad then it back fires some times. So I replaced the spark plugs but that didn.T help. Is there anything else I can try?

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Vacuum leaks?

Yes the check engine light has been on since I got the car. It has fuel pressure. And we checked the vacuum lines as much as we can see of them and we didn't find any leaks.

If the light has been on, there will be a trouble code stored in the computer that will help us determine the problem. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have the scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free. It will help us determine the problem.

Call them and ask if they will lend or rent a scanner to you.
