About two weeks ago while driving I noticed a rich fuel smell in my car. I didnt think anything of it at the time which I should have, but as time passed, the smell went away. Now a few days ago Im driving home and all of a sudden I hear a wierd sound coming from my exhaust. It sounded as if the muffler was off. I checked it and it wasn't. When I went to drive the next day I was getting horrible acceleration, especialy uphill, and when I would stop the car would shake a tad and sounded like the something was clogged. So I looked at my catlytic converter and it wasnt glowing and I dindt smell any rotten eggs but I noticed when I put my hand behind my muffler a larger amount of soot was deposited. My question is could the converter be so clogged that it caused my car to lose acceleration, or would it be the fuel injectors going bad having caused this?

Edit: My car has 193000 miles on it. It may be time for a new one.

Hmm come to think of it, when I was test driving it earlier in the day to see if I could pin point anything more specific without having to take it to the shop and run it through all the computers, I noticed when I accelerated it tended to lightly missfire as if the exaust was backing into the manifold.(It sounded like a little pop) Also, umm I noticed I had almost half a tank of gas when I went out and Had a little under a 1/4 of a tank going just 5-6 miles at the max. The oil I checked befor and it was fine. The radiator was fine as well. I will have to recheck again in the morning.
