I purchased a brand new truck Monday night. It had twenty three miles on it when I test drove. Prior to the test drive, they had to charge the battery and it was replaced on-site a few minutes later. Slightly concerning, but figured it sat on the lot not driven for awhile. I bought the truck.

Three days later (now two hundred miles), truck idles rough upon starting and shut off a few times while idling. Engine light came on. The next day, same problems plus riding rough and making popping/rattling noises while accelerating (on the way to shop). Computer said ignition coils failed. Car is now in shop and I have a loaner.

Should I be concerned this truck is a lemon? I have never heard of a brand new vehicle having mechanical problems so quickly. Is there a legitimate reason the ignition coils could fail so soon, or is this truck a lemon that needs to be returned to the dealer ASAP?

Hello there, I would be concerned too. It is a possibility that there was just a bad coil, it happens. Maybe just give a couple weeks after the repair and see if it is okay, your warranty should cover anything else that happens. But I understand your frustration with it, any other issues, let us know.

Thank you. Turned out to be a wire harness for the ignition coil that was not properly grounded at the factory. I just hope it is not a sign of things to come.
