If it moves in reverse, then it is unlikely that the brakes are locked. However, just to understand the issue, when you drive forward, do the RPM go up but you don't move like you are neutral? Or does it rock forward and get bogged down? If the brakes are locked then they will make all sorts of noise as they try to hold the vehicle in place and it will jerk and rock around as that torque from the engine needs to go somewhere so the chassis and body will flex.
If it does not do any of this and the RPM just comes up then the more than likely we have a valve body issue.

I would suggest with starting checking the transmission fluid and make sure it is not dark in color and the proper level.
