First you need to check if you are losing brake fluid. Look in the reservoir on the master cylinder to see if part of it is empty. Also, check under the car to see if there is evidence of a leak. Look just inside each tire for wetness on the inner sidewall or on the ground, and look between the two left tires under the doors. If you see a puddle there, a steel line going to the rear brakes has rusted out.

If the brake fluid level is okay, and there is no puddle under the car, the master cylinder could just have failed.
