2003 BMW Z4 EML light on and car won't start

2003 BMW Z4 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 130000 miles

My car has done about 130000km and has been in perfect order til a day ago. I drove it all day & at about lunchtime, I went into a store quickly, came back & swithed on the ignition and it gave me a click. Click sound and the car wouldn't start. I looked at the dashboard and the EML warning sign was on. What could have gone wrong? And how much is it gonna cost me to fix?

It could be a bad battery. When you say it clicks, that could be the battery not having enough energy to keep the starter engaged and it makes that sound. The EML light is for the electronic throttle and there may be more going on here. First thing to do is to test the battery, let's start there.
