The check engine Light has been on for a couple of months. The Code reader found code P0455. I changed the gas cap and waited a couple of weeks but the light did not go off, so I had a mechanic double check the code (he verified P0455) then he turn the warning light off. I 'm wiating to see (about 100 miles) if the light comes back on.

I have no other noticable symptoms, eveything seems to be runnig fine, there is not any type of gas smell, etc. The car only has 48K miles.

1) What are the most cost effective steps to trouble shooting this problem? 2) Are there any trouble shooting steps that I can do before taking it to the BMW dealer and paying a fortune? 3) Is there a free on-line BMW reapir manual so I can see what I could do myself? Or at least understand the mechanic when he talks to me aobut the problem.

When you changed the gas cap, did you reset the service engine soon light? It will not turn itself out.

Thank you for the help.

I just had the engine light reset about a week ago and I've since driven about 300 miles and the light has not come back on. I'm thinking that the new gas cap worked and the problem is solved. Thank goodness.
