The purge valve is in need of replacement. Also called the tank vent valve, it is under hood and is easily located and replaced, located in plain view at the left front area of the engine bay. If the production date is before 9/97 the part# 13-90-1-744-150 is what you seek. Most OBDII resetting devices will reset your check engine light.
