2003 BMW 530 Service Light

2003 BMW 530 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

I have a e39 5 series. I reccently got an oil change from a mechanic, but my "service engine soon" light is still it. Is it cause I need to reset the service light? I read somewhere that there is a tool that is required as well. I also read somewhere else that 2003 E39 don't need any tool and can manually reset it from the odometer. Thanks
