My battery is dead, my alternator needs changing. But i'm in a situation where I need to drive my car 50 miles. I have a jump start kit, I was wondering if I can use that jump start kit to charge my battery? How long do I need to charge it before it becomes a full battery, and enough for me to drive and get it fix?

I dont think you will make it 50 miles on a new battery, I think that may be out of the limits for the battery.

Well what if charge the battery, and also connect the jump start. Would that help me get where I need to go? Or should I just play it safe and take it to a local shop?

Playing it safe is my recommendation.
