what happened was it got harder to use the windows and hold a charge on the battery, and when i replaced the battery it started again, a few days went by and when i went to drive it the battery was dead. since then i've not been able to start the car.

You have either a key-off draw or the charging system is not performing as expected. Do you have an Digital volt/amp/ohm meter?

No i do not but what do you think the cost to repair that on a bmw?

Difficult to say for sure, maybe something quite simple like the glovebox light or ? Aftermarket goodies like amps and alarms do their share of mischief. $75 - $100 maybe less, maybe more.
